TRAVEL TIPS & FAQS

Consider staying in Algeciras
Although most guide books don't give Algeciras a good write-up, there are some benefits in spending a night or two here after all. The biggest plus is the cheap and central accomodation you can get here for around 12 to 15 Euros a night per person. Algeciras has very good connections to nearby places such as Jimena, Ronda, Gibraltar and Tarifa, well worth a visit before or after going to Morocco and other places in Spain. There are a number of cheap Internet Cafés also offering public phones with cheap international rates. Algeciras itself does have a nice and authentically Spanish town centre, which most backpackers don't get to see when passing through the more unattractive part of town, where the port, train and bus stations are to be found. You can also take a local bus to one of Algeciras' two beaches or to the edge of town, from where you can walk along the "Rio de la miel" (river of honey), which leads you into the mountains and ends with a small waterfall and pool, where you can take a refreshing dip. For finding a hostel and for more detailed information just drop by the Lighthouse where we will be more than glad to help you.
